Kelly joined the Hotel Marshfield team in April, 2017. She has worked in hospitality for the past 15 years, where her love for the industry started in Food & Beverage, before progressing into the Operations and Management side. Kelly’s passion for customer service moved her to switch her college studies from nursing to management. She majored in Business and received her Associates of Arts degree in Business and continued to major in Hospitality Management and Travel & Tourism, where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business. Kelly has since managed and assisted new hotel openings, ran conventions, brand conversions and renovations, on top of managing her own property and training other property managers in various areas of the Mid-West.
How does the Hotel Marshfield team describe Kelly?
Hotel Marshfield: Tell us about yourself!
Kelly: Coming from an army family, I spent my youth traveling around the states until I settled in the Fox Valley area, and I have been a resident of the Midwest ever since. I have a 6-year-old daughter, Natalie, and a 3-year-old Husky, Emma, whom I share with my husband, Nicholas. In my spare time, you can find us enjoying the outdoors, playing in the backyard, out on the lake, tubing down the river, sledding in the winter…it’s nice to just disconnect, get outside, have some fun and enjoy the fresh air!
Hotel Marshfield: What was your favorite place that you lived or traveled to?
Kelly: When I lived in Oklahoma, the weather was like heaven…outside of tornado season! I’ve been to 29 states, so I can’t pick the most interesting, as I think every place is unique. But my favorite travel destination was New Orleans; very fascinating culture in that part of the U.S.
Hotel Marshfield: What skill would you like to master?
Kelly: For some reason, I can’t grow anything that grows in the ground. As the saying goes, I do not have a “Green Thumb.” I’m lucky my grass is green! I’ve tried being a YouTube fanatic and learning tricks of the trade, but I can’t seem to do it.
Hotel Marshfield: What are some small things that make your day better?
Kelly: Sounds cheesy, but a smile in the morning. I have been told I’m “too bubbly and happy” in the morning when I walk around right away at 8:00am. I know some people aren’t “morning people,” so I’ve learned to sit and enjoy my coffee. Did I say I love coffee? I LOVE coffee! I think when you work in a hotel, you have a different kind of love for caffeine!
Hotel Marshfield: What’s your claim to fame?
Kelly: Remodeling. The stigma of women not being very “handy” is a real thing, so most people are impressed that I love building things, LOVE dry walling and mudding, painting, etc., and I’m very good at it! I’ve been contracted out by real estate companies to work on bank repossessions and improve resale value of homes for them. My mom is a retired cosmetologist and currently owns an interior design business, so she passed some very creative skills down and I enjoy doing that stuff in my spare time.
Hotel Marshfield: What is something on your bucket list?
Kelly: Go ahead and call me crazy, but I would LOVE to jump out of an airplane! I’m very much an adrenaline junkie!
